Dr. Jimmy Gutman, MD  - “Your life depends on glutathione. Without it, your cells would disintegrate from unrestrained oxidation, your body would have little resistance to bacteria, viruses and cancer, and your liver would shrivel up from the eventual accumulation of toxins. Glutathione levels also diminsh as we age and many diseases normally associated with aging have been linked to glutathione deficiency. Clinical evidence links low glutathione levels to the most common illnesses of our time as well as newly emerging diseases.Because all other antioxidants depend upon the presence of glutathione to function properly, scientists call it ‘the master antioxidant’.Healthy people also benefit from elevated glutathione levels through an enhanced ability to fight off toxins, infectious disease, pre-cancerous cells and the aging process itself. Many world-class athletes are discovering that well-maintained glutathione levels give them the edge over their competitors, bringing greater strength and endurance, decreased recovery time from injury, less muscle pain and fatigue, and muscle-promoting activity.” Audio pronunciation of "glutathione
Dr. Allan Somersall, Ph.D., M.D. with Dr. Gustavo Bounous, M.D. - "Without glutathione, other important antioxidants such as vitamins C and E cannot do their job adequately to protect your body against disease." Breakthrough in Cell Defense
Medical  professionals: how Immunocal can boost glutathione and maximize your health

Dr. Allan Somersall MD - "Immunocal is the future of the wellness movement - nothing else I know can impact the ability of every cell in the human body to defend itself from the common pathological mechanisms. To raise glutathione levels is to reduce premature oxidation, to quench destructive free radicals and help detoxify the poisons inside each cell when it needs to. Only Immunocal is clinically proven to do that in a safe, effective and convenient way."

Dr. Jean Marcoux MD - "Almost everyone I put on Immunocal tells me that they feel better as soon as they start taking the product. This is explained by the fact that Immunocal brings to all the cells in our body, the building blocks necessary to produce glutathione, a small protein that each cell needs to function properly. In severe asthmatics taking Immunocal, the attacks become less frequent and less severe. The need for medication is decreased, they sleep better, they don't miss work or school as often, resulting in a better quality of life." Dr. Jean Marcoux is a Board Certified Allergist, Immunologist

Patrick J.D. Bouic, Ph.D - "No other antioxidant is as important to overall health as glutathione. It is the regenerator of immune cells and the most valuable detoxifying agent in the body. Low levels are associated with early aging and even death."

Over tens of thousands of medical articles have highlighted the importance of Glutathione.

The concentration of glutathione declines with age and in some age-related diseases. Glutathione deficiency contributes to oxidative stress, which plays a key role in aging and the worsening of many diseases including Alzheimer's disease, cancer, Parkinson's disease, heart attack, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, HIV, AIDS, sickle cell anemia, and diabetes. Glutathione has been described as a 'food for the immune system', enabling the body to do its own healing. There are more than 76,000 medical articles about it -- but most doctors don't know how to address the epidemic deficiency of this critical life-giving molecule.

Dr. Paul Cheney - "Glutathione has potent anti-viral properties - if you raise the glutathione level you can stop the replication of most any, at least, intracellular pathogen....but glutathione deficiency produces a pro-viral effect."

Glutathione Deficiency Can Cause Serious Health Conditions

The level of Glutathione in our cells is predictive of how long we will live. We need this miraculous antioxidant to survive, and without it, our liver would soon become overwhelmed with the accumulation of toxins, resulting in organ failure and death. Glutathione is manufactured by every one of our trillions of cells and is one of the most important healing and cleansing agents. Low glutathione levels are linked to diseases such as Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Atherosclerosis, pregnancy complications, male infertility and Cataracts. Glutathione is continuously defending our body against attacks from disease, toxins, poisons, viruses, pollutants, radiation and oxidative stress.

Every day our bodies are exposed to factors that drain our levels of glutathione: Stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet, aging, injury and fatigue. These all contribute to glutathione depletion which, in turn, leads to cellular aging, disease and death. “Concern about maintaining one’s glutathione level will eventually be on par with other health maintenance issues.” says Dr. Bounous M.D.

How to prepare or mix Immunocal
The proteins in Immunocal are very fragile. Do not heat this product or add it to hot liquids. Do not use a high-powered blender to mix. Heat and severe mechanical action will break down the protein and diminish the usefulness of the product. Immunocal is a dehydrated powder. It must be rehydrated with liquids before use. If left standing too long after mixing, the usefulness of the product may be reduced. It is generally recommended to consume the product within 30 minutes of mixing. Special low-speed blenders or mixing cups can be made available through Immunotec Inc.’s distribution networks.

What is Immunocal?

Immunocal is an all-natural non-prescription health product available worldwide. This special protein holds many national and international patents and is medically recognized in the Physicians’ Desk Reference (“PDR” U.S.A.) and Compendium of Pharmaceutical Specialties (“CPS” Canada). It has undergone over 30 years of research and has been taken safely and effectively by millions of individuals. Immunocal is also called Humanized Milk Serum, or HMS-90 in Canada. Top

What does Immunocal do?

Immunocal acts in two ways – it is a very high quality protein that provides all the amino acids your body needs, and, more critically, it raises a substance in your body called “glutathione”. Glutathione plays many roles in your body, the four most important of which can be summarized by the acronym:

AID = E2

A – Antioxidant: Glutathione is the body’s “Master Antioxidant”
I – Immune System: Glutathione is critical for immune function
D – Detoxification: Glutathione is your cell's key detoxification enzyme
E2 Glutathione contributes to your overall energy at many levels  Top

How does Immunocal work?

The Natural Health Products Directorate of Health Canada has issued an NPN (Natural Product Number) for the specific health claim “Immunocal is a natural source of the glutathione precursor cysteine for the maintenance of a strong immune system.” (NPN-80004370)

Immunocal contains specific fragile proteins that supply your body with the building blocks needed for the production of glutathione in your cells. These building blocks are called “precursors” and glutathione precursors are relatively rare in our normal diets. Unfortunately, eating glutathione itself does not effectively raise glutathione in the cells; this is why we need the precursors. Top
Do healthy people need glutathione?

Optimal glutathione levels are important for everyone. Although you are hopefully in good health right now, glutathione levels fall as we age, and are lowered by a great number of very common illnesses. There is a constant demand for glutathione in our daily life; stress, pollution and infectious disease are all causes of glutathione depletion. For those that exercise regularly, glutathione is especially important to replenish to avoid injury, improve recovery time and keep your immune system strong. Top

Which illnesses may be affected by raising glutathione?

Many disease states are characterized by low glutathione levels. Immunocal has been developed as a strategy to help sustain glutathione levels. Glutathione deficiency states include, but are not limited to: AIDS and cancer muscle wasting, chemical and infectious hepatitis, radiation poisoning, malnutrition states, strong physical stress, and acetaminophen toxicity. Many other problems including cardiovascular, lung, digestive and kidney disorders are associated with glutathione deficiency and are cited in numerous medical references. Top

Who should avoid Immunocal?

People who have a specific allergy to milk proteins (this is different from lactose intolerance) need to avoid this product. People who are taking immunosuppressive medication in the case of organ transplants should not take this product. Top

Who should be cautious with Immunocal?

People who are on a protein-restricted diet need to calculate into their daily equation 9 grams of protein per pouch and should not exceed their daily protein limit. Keep in mind that Immunocal has a very high “biological value” as a protein and will supply an excellent source of amino acids for those individuals who may be challenged nutritionally.

Are there side effects and what do I do about them?

Abdominal cramps and bloating can occasionally occur. This is usually corrected by increasing your fluid intake. Rarely, some individuals may experience a rash with this product. Although this may indicate an allergy, it may represent a “detoxification reaction”. In both cases, discontinuing the product should resolve the symptom. If any symptoms are severe or persistent, contact your health care practitioner.  Top

Is Immunocal safe to take with medication?

There have been no known harmful side effects of using Immunocal or any other Immunotec product while on medications. However, to be safe, it is suggested to consult with your physician if you have any questions. Top

How much should I take and when should I take it?

As a natural source of the glutathione cysteine precursor for the maintenance of the good health, 10 grams per day (one pouch) is recommended. As a natural source of the glutathione cysteine precursor for the maintenance of a strong immune system, 20 grams per day is recommended (two pouches). Clinical trials in patients with AIDS, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome have used 30 - 40 grams per day without ill effect.

Immunocal is best administered on an empty stomach or with a light meal. Concomitant intake of another high protein load may adversely affect absorption. Top

How many packages are in one box of Immunocal?

There are thirty (30) packages of Immunocal in every box. This is the same for Immunocal or Immunocal Platinum.

How do I store Immunocal?

Try to keep Immunocal in a cool dry place. Avoid prolonged exposure to hot environments. Refrigeration will prolong the life of the product but is optional.  Top

What is Immunocal Platinum?

More Valuable than GOLD!
Immunocal has been Immunotec’s flagship product for years. Immunocals’ action is based on the benefits of raising glutathione. The wealth of research on glutathione and the aging process speaks for itself. What is it about the “Platinum” formulation that takes this a step further? Let’s examine this closer.

The major impact on your health that Immunocal bestows is by providing the building blocks or “precursors” for your cells to be able to make glutathione. This is a technology that we continue to refine. Both Immunocal and Immunocal Platinum represent the only patented protein proven to do this. In the development of Immunocal Platinum, we have looked very carefully both at protein metabolism and at potential components of whey proteins that relate to aging. Two separate formulations have been added to Immunocal – CMP™* and RMF. Top

CMP (Cytokine Modulating Peptides)

Cytokines are little molecules that the immune system uses to regulate inflammation. Inflammation plays a role not only in issues like aches and pains, but also in cardiovascular and neurological health. Inflammation has been pointed to as one of the key factors driving the aging process. What CMP does, is “turn down the volume” on these cytokines.  Top

*CMP is a trademark of Glanbia LLC.

RMF (Redox Modulating Formula)

RMF is an exclusive development from Immunotec’s research and development team mastered by Dr. Wulf Dröge. The major objective here was to decrease the amount of acid formed in the body (important to the kidneys), and as a second benefit, reduces the amount of calcium lost (important in bone health).  Top

Who should take Platinum?

We all should take Platinum. Although it was initially developed with the “Baby-Boomers” and geriatric populations in mind, it became clear that there were benefits for overweight individuals, athletic individuals, people with circulation challenges and others. Certainly, good old Immunocal has proven benefits for all these groups, but Platinum represents the next generation in immune enhancement and will become the new standard in the immune health market. The recommended serving size is unchanged from Immunocal and it can be combined with Immunocal as desired. Top

Turn a triple into a HOME RUN!

Immunocal Platinum provides a triple action on your immune health – Raising glutathione represents Preventative immunity, the cytokine modulating proteins representing Reparative Immunity. Attention to the proper acid-base balance helps lead to Sustained Immunity. Turn this triple into a homer by topping it off with the other supplements your health professional may recommend to you!  Top

What is the difference between Immunocal and Immunocal Platinum?

Immunocal naturally boosts glutathione levels in the human cell, helping the immune system to perform at optimal levels. The Platinum product contains the same glutathione-enhancing ingredients as Immunocal, but was designed specifically for baby boomers. Among its many features, Immunocal Platinum works with the body to repair damaged cells and to improve mood, energy, well-being, alertness, concentration and clarity, all important to the maturing population. It also helps maintain proper muscle function and maintain bone health by reducing calcium loss.  Top

Does Immunocal contain any additives?

The product is additive-free; the sole ingredient is undenatured whey protein isolate.

Can a person who is lactose-intolerant take Immunocal?

Yes, since each pouch of Immunocal contains less than 1% lactose, it is usually well-tolerated in people who are lactose-intolerant. It should be noted that being lactose-intolerant is different than having a milk protein allergy. Top

How does the manufacture of Immunocal differ from other whey proteins?

Immunotec’s proprietary manufacturing process preserves the critical disulfide bonds in the glutathione precursor cysteine. By delivering this delicate protein to the cell, it enables the body to create glutathione and maximize immune system levels. Other whey proteins are often manufactured using extreme heat and harsh methods of mixing, resulting in a denatured and ineffective product. Top

What are the Immunocal/Immunocal Platinum pouches made of, and are they recyclable?

The pouches are made of low-density polyethylene; the Immunocal Platinum pouch also contains foil layers. The pouches are not recyclable. Top

What does undenatured mean?

Immunocal works by providing important glutathione precursors to the cell. It is critical that these precursors remain intact or undenatured during the manufacturing and mixing processes in order to enhance the immune system. That is why the manufacture (Immunotec) recommend that Immunocal not be heated or subject to harsh mixing in order to preserve its bioactivity. Top

What is the difference between Immunocal and other whey proteins?

While other whey proteins may be good sources of nutrition, only Immunocal is proven to raise glutathione levels and enhance the immune system. Immunocal has a proprietary and unique formulation developed by Immunotec who uses a proprietary manufacturing process for its production.

Why can’t glutathione be taken in pill form?

Glutathione is produced by the body in the cell when the necessary precursors are provided. Immunocal delivers cysteine to the cell so that it can produce glutathione. Pills pass through the digestive system and little, if any, glutathione is absorbed. Top

Where can I find Immunocal listed?

Immunocal is listed in the Physicians’ Desk Reference, the Pharmacist’s Red Book and is eligible for coverage under Medicare/Medicaid in the U.S. In Canada, it is listed in the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties (CPS). Top

What patents does Immunocal hold?

Immunocal has been awarded numerous method of use patents for the prevention and treatment of cancer, the treatment of HIV, as an immune system enhancer, for its ability to raise glutathione, and as a chemotherapeutic agent. Top

Can Athletes Safely Benefit from Immunocal?

Yes. Immunocal has been tested as part of ConsumerLab.com’s Athletic Banned Substance Screening Program which screens for over 170 substances (including metabolites) based on the 2007 World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List and has been certified free of any prohibited substances. The screening includes testing for stimulants, narcotics, anabolic agents, diuretics, masking agents and beta blockers based on the Olympic Movement Anti-Doping Code or the codes of other sports organizations.  Immunocal information on ConsumerLab.com’s website

Private Insurance coverage and Medicare/Medicaid in the U.S.

Is bioactive whey protein reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance programs?

Yes. Although Medicare and Medicaid do not endorse or "approve" any company's product, an Immunocal bioactive whey protein meets the coding determination for coverage eligibility by Medicaid, Medicare, and many private insurance programs. Although the purchase of bioactive whey protein does not require a doctor's prescription, a prescription is required for reimbursement eligibility coverage under Medicare and Medicaid. NOTE: The Immunocal bioactive whey protein is the FIRST product sold by any direct selling company in the world to ever meet these strict criteria. This is a phenomenal accomplishment for a non-drug "nutritional supplement", and clearly establishes a higher level of validation and credibility for this product!

The Immunocal bioactive whey protein has it's own NDC (National Drug Control) registry number: 28770-0970-01, and is being approved on a state-by-state basis for reimbursement. The code for Medicare is: B4155. Currently, Ohio, New Jersey, Minnesota, Nevada, and New York have established reimbursement guidelines, and decisions in 18 states are currently pending. In some of these states (notably New York State and California), this bioactive whey protein is available without restriction on Medicaid. In other states, the physician must be willing to write a letter of necessity in addition to writing a prescription for it to be reimbursed. It meets the requirements for enteral nutritional supplements which are eligible for coverage by Medicare/Medicaid for nutritional management of the patient. This is available for general practitioners to prescribe. For Medicare patients, current coverage eligibility is limited to Naso-Gastric (NG) tube feedings, but Medicaid is much less restrictive.

Medicaid has broader prescribing parameters for both oral as well as tube-feeding nutritional management. This Immunocal bioactive whey protein will be one of the few nutritional supplements to be listed in the year 2000 through 2009 edition of the prestigious Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR). Physicians have relied on the PDR for up-to-date information on prescription drugs for over 50 years. The PDR is considered the standard prescription drug reference and can be found in virtually every physician's office, hospital, and pharmacy in the United States. The inclusion of this product in the PDR is a reflection of it's credibility within the medical community, and is also a result of our recognition by Medicare and Medicaid. For questions regarding reimbursement procedures in your State, please contact your State Medicaid agency or Medicare plan contractor, or contact your private insurance plan provider directly.

    Q. What is Immunocal bioactive whey protein?   What is HMS-90?
     A. Immunocal is a specific brand of bioactive whey protein (which is also called Humanized Milk Serum, or HMS-90 in Canada). There are several other brands of bioactive whey proteins, but at the time of this writing, none of these brands are backed by clinical research. Immunocal is not a prescription drug, but a patented (8 Method of Use Patents world-wide, and 5 US Patents) un-denatured and bio-active whey protein dietary supplement that is rich in glutathione precursors.

These US patents include: Biologically active whey protein concentrate, Biologically active undenatured whey protein, Undenatured whey protein concentrate to improve active systemic humoral immune response, Method of treatment of HIV-seropositive individuals with dietary whey proteins, Anti-cancer therapeutic compositions containing whey protein concentrate, and Use of a decapeptide with benzodiazepine-type activity for preparing medicines and food supplements

Immunotec invested over $10 million and 18 years of research into their product, which is extremely rare for a non-prescription nutritional supplement. The primary researcher involved in the discovery of Immunocal bioactive whey protein is Gustavo Bounous, MD. Immunocal bioactive whey protein is a highly concentrated milk serum isolate which is high in protein (90% protein by weight) and is lactose-free, carbohydrate and sugar-free, and fat-free. Immunocal shares many of the same immune promoting and enhancing properties of Mother's milk. Immunocal has been clinically proven to increase serum and tissue glutathione levels, and is validated by extensive research, including numerous published scientific studies and review articles which appear in the medical literature and are available for you to examine through our MEDLINE (National Library of medicine) link. Immunocal increases glutathione, which is your cells' own natural antioxidant and most potent detoxifier. Immunocal has been demonstrated to enhance both healthy and deficient immune systems, and is validated as an effective nutritional supplement by the medical community. Immunocal is the only non-prescription dietary supplement to appear in the year 2000 through 2008 Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) for Prescription Drugs, although it is available without prescription! It has it's own NDC (National Drug Control) number, and is reimbursable under Medicaid, Medicare, and by private insurance in many states. Top

     Q. Is Immunocal bioactive whey protein approved by the FDA for the treatment of cancer, chronic fatigue, autoimmune, and glutathione deficiency diseases?
     A. No.   The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not "approve" any nutritional supplements for these indications. The FDA determines the safety of nutritional supplements, and regulates or restricts the distribution of those products considered to pose a health risk to the American public. Immunocal is considered to be "generally recognized as Safe", (GRAS) by the FDA. This is the same classification given vitamin C. Based on a recent decision by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the FDA is tolerating references to certain therapeutic uses of nutritional supplements which are based on strong scientific or clinical evidence and "significant scientific agreement". Because Immunocal bioactive whey protein is manufactured by a Canadian company, the manufacturer is more sensitive to the regulatory pressures of the FDA than American supplement manufacturers, and has chosen to be ultra-conservative in their marketing of the product. Each box of the product is produced from 500 liters (125 gallons) of fresh, organic milk from free-range, grass-fed cattle on a contract farm in the state of Idaho. No disease treatment claims are made concerning bioactive whey protein. Top

     Q. What is the difference between Immunocal bioactive whey protein and other whey proteins?
     A. Immunocal bioactive whey protein has been shown to differ from other whey proteins in its effect upon the immune system. Specifically, scientific studies on other whey proteins have not shown the same immune stimulating effects that are seen with bioactive whey protein. Immunocal bioactive whey protein has been extensively studied in the clinical literature. Comparing Immunocal bioactive whey protein to other commercial whey proteins clearly shows the superiority of bioactive whey protein. Immunocal bioactive whey protein is one of 4 commercially available bioactive whey proteins, but it is the only one that is supported by eighteen years of research and by both animal research and human clinical trials. Bioactive whey protein studies (done with Immunocal) have shown that they not only increase intracellular levels of GSH (glutathione or glutathione precursors) following ingestion, but also significantly build up the stores of these substances inside the cells. This beneficial effect lasts for considerable periods of time after ingestion of bioactive whey protein. Top

     Q. What is the product's bioactivity dependent upon?
     A. Concentrations of 3 bioactive and thermolabile (easily damaged by heat) proteins that are contained in the milk serum: serum albumin, alpha lactalbumin and lactoferrin. Because these compounds can be damaged by heat (in excess of 140 degrees F) or excessive mechanical agitation, bioactive whey protein must not be cooked, heated, or placed in a steel-bladed blender. For these reasons, and to preserve the bioactivity of its serum albumin, alpha lactalbumin and lactoferrin, bioactive whey protein has not been exposed to standard high-temperature Pasteurization. Rather, it has been bio-filtered to remove bacteria, and subjected to patent-process low-temperature purification procedures to ensure its safety and purity. Top

     Q. If a different manufacturer of whey protein supplements was able to duplicate Immunotec's technology, could they make the same claims?
     A. No. The method of use patents preclude another manufacturer from duplicating the manufacturing process of Immunocal. Immunotec Immunocal bioactive whey protein patents (presently there are eight patents on bioactive whey protein: 5 US patents, and 3 international patents) relate to the METHOD OF USE. That is, no other whey protein can state: "clinically PROVEN to stimulate the immune system", and "significantly raises glutathione levels". Additionally, although there are dozens of companies producing denatured (high-heat Pasteurized) whey proteins (primarily for use as a protein source in body-building), there currently is no company manufacturing an UNDENATURED whey protein product similar to Immunocal bioactive whey protein. Numerous clinical studies and medical reviews appear in the clinical literature which specifically involved the Immunocal brand of bioactive whey protein, and not other high-heat pasteurized commercial whey proteins. Accept no imitations. Top

     Q. What exactly is glutathione and how is it important?
     A. Glutathione is the master antioxidant of the body. Without glutathione, we die. The replenishment of the glutathione levels within the lymphocytes (also called leucocytes or white blood cells) increases the intensity of the immune response. The increase in glutathione levels also results in the proliferation of lymphocytes that act as a scavengers, and helps to combat infections. Selenium (a micronutrient and mineral) is a structural component of, and a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase. For this reason, supplementation with selenium can modestly increase glutathione levels in persons who are selenium deficient. Glutathione is a tri-peptide of the amino acids cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid. Tissue glutathione levels increase when cystine levels increase within the cell. This is why cystine is critical in the production of glutathione, but prior to the development of bioactive whey protein, no effective way was known to safely and significantly increase cystine levels in the cell over long periods of time. A deficiency of glutathione can cause hemolysis (the destruction of red blood cells resulting in severe anemia) and numerous diseases of oxidative stress. Low glutathione levels are commonly found among the elderly, those undergoing cancer chemotherapy, and among patients suffering from autoimmune and immune deficiency diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFSIDS), fibromyalgia, and AIDS. Glutathione is essential in intermediary metabolism as a donor of sulfhydryl groups (which are essential for the detoxification of the liver). That is why the only known "side effects" associated with bioactive whey protein supplementation are associated with the beneficial detoxification which occurs as a result of improved liver function. The antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase functions in the process of elimination of wastes from the body. Glutathione works within the liver, lungs, colon, kidneys, and skin in the process of removing toxic eliminating cellular metabolic wastes. Top

     Q. What is the difference between products or pills that people use as supplements that are labeled as "glutathione" or "cystine"?
     A. Glutathione is produced within the cells (intra-cellularly). When taking a pill labeled "glutathione", clinical and laboratory studies demonstrate that oral glutathione is NOT absorbed but will be eliminated by the liver through the bile before ever reaching the systemic circulation (blood stream). Cystine is not well absorbed when taken by mouth. Injectable glutathione also has limited benefits. It is unstable in the blood stream. By the time it gets to the cell, much of it gets degraded, and much of this remaining glutathione cannot effectively pass through the cell membrane.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that oral cystine supplementation (NAC or N Acetyl L-Cysteine) is NOT effective in increasing cystine levels within the cell, and has also not been associated with significant increases in glutathione levels within the cell. The three bioactive proteins supplied by bioactive whey protein constitute a "natural delivery system" from these cystine precursors to the cell (in order to facilitate clinically and statistically significant increases in glutathione levels in BOTH the extracellular serum and intracellular tissues). Because Immunocal bioactive whey protein provides the building blocks for cystine, and these building blocks for cystine are easily transported inside the cell where they can be quickly synthesized into glutathione, bioactive whey protein is therefore ideally suited to increase glutathione levels within the cell. Top

     Q. What is the difference between NAC (N Acetyl L-Cysteine) and bioactive whey protein?
     A. N Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) is sulfur-containing (sulfhydryl) amino acid which is present in many proteins, and is in the same class as the amino acid methionine. NAC is a naturally occurring amino sugar and is a form of cysteine which has been demonstrated to facilitate the SHORT TERM cellular detoxification of alcohol, tobacco smoke, acetaminophen [Tylenol®] poisoning and environmental pollutants in several in vitro studies. When Cystine is heated, molecular bonds are cleaved and it becomes Cysteine. Cysteine is beneficial if it is produced INSIDE the cell, but is mildly toxic if it is produced outside the cell. NAC does not travel well in the blood stream, and doesn't reach the cells (to be used to synthesize glutathione and Glutamic acid). NAC supplementation over long periods has been associated with modest increases in serum glutathione, but has not proven particularly useful in the treatment of chronic, long-term intracellular glutathione deficiencies. Furthermore, therapeutic levels of NAC are relatively toxic and have been associated with significant side effects. At therapeutic doses, oral NAC supplementation has been associated with cerebral symptoms, nausea, blurred vision, and vomiting. Immunocal bioactive whey protein provides the precursors for the manufacture of intra-cellular cystine, and effectively delivers these to the cell. For this reason, bioactive whey protein supplementation has been associated with sustained and significant increases of cellular glutathione, and is virtually devoid of troublesome side-effects. Bioactive whey protein has the same side-effect profile as mothers' milk. Top

     Q. What is the difference between bovine colostrum and bioactive whey protein?
     A. The proteins in colostrum have almost no cystine content. Cystine is critically essential to the immune system. Although Growth Factors present in colostrum (including IGF-1, or Insulin-like growth Factor-1 which is effective in promoting muscle growth) are not affected by stomach acid, research published by one manufacturer of Colostrum (Vital Health News, Winter 1998, page 7) demonstrated that "the effectiveness of the immune factors present in colostrum is lowered by stomach acid." Although the immune enhancing factors found in colostrum are often "preferable to single isolated immune components" (such as interferon, which is more likely to cause troublesome side effects), colostrum has NOT been demonstrated to be superior to isolated undenatured whey proteins such as Immunocal bioactive whey protein. Colostrum (which is produced during the first 26 hours following birth by the mammary glands) is primarily composed of immunoglobulin and some lactoferrin. According to both laboratory experiments and clinical trials conducted in Germany, although colostrum supplementation was associated with mild increases in immune function in some patients, these increases were not statistically significant, (p=ns). A postulated mechanism of action of colostrum is the inter-species transfer of immune factors, however this has NOT been clinically proven. Most of the data supporting the effectiveness of colostrum is anecdotal (consisting mostly of personal testimonies rather than clinical studies). Since the primary mechanism of action on the immune system is via stimulation of the synthesis (production) of glutathione, the near absence of glutathione precursors in the immunoglobulin fraction (from the colostrum) may explain its relative lack of effect. Conversely, bioactive whey protein contains substantial amounts of thermolabile (heat-sensitive) proteins that are rich in cystine and glutamylcystine (known precursors of glutathione), and Immunocal bioactive whey protein has been validated in numerous human clinical trials which found statistically significant increases in glutathione and indices of immune function (such as CD4:CD8 ratios). Colostrum might be beneficial as an adjunctive (add-on) to bioactive whey protein, but the clinical data is significantly more convincing for bioactive whey protein. Top

     Q. How does the manufacturing of Immunocal differ from other whey proteins?
     A. In the manufacturing of other whey proteins several things occur: in the process of heating and Pasteurization, critical bonds holding the cystine together get broken down ("denatured", meaning they loose their original nature--similar to the denaturing and irreversible changing of liquid egg white by the heating process involved in frying an egg). The exact type of proteins that serve to increase tissue and serum glutathione most effectively are lost or diminished. Researchers have developed a process by which these delicate proteins remain intact in their natural form to serve us most effectively. Top

     Q. Is Immunocal bioactive whey protein free from Bovine Growth Hormone, antibiotics, and other chemicals?
     A. rBGH (bovine Growth Hormone) and other growth hormones have become a major issue of controversy in the dairy industry. Certain herdsmen give their cows the growth hormone to increase milk production. It is devastating to the cows, and to those who drink their milk also. American dairy farmers in the state of Idaho provide the milk to manufacture Immunocal bioactive whey protein from one large dairy farm in the state of Idaho. This particular location was chosen because the soil selenium levels are highest in the USA, and grazing on grasses which are grown on Idaho selenium-rich soil results in high selenium levels in the milk. Selenium (an essential micronutrient and mineral) is a structural component of the powerful "master antioxidant" glutathione. The selenium level in 10 grams of bioactive whey protein is more than 4 mcg, which is much higher than found in most commercial whey proteins. That is good. This facilitates the cystine component of the whey protein (bioactive whey protein is 100% whey protein) from this selenium-rich milk to be more effeciently metabolized by the body to form glutathione within the cells of the body. On the other hand, absolutely no herbicides, pesticides or chemicals are used on the grasses these cows graze upon. The milk from these cows qualifies to be certified organic (hormone, pesticide and agricultural chemical-free). The cattle on this farm are subjected to more rigorous standards than almost any other dairy cattle in the USA. If a cow is sick and must be treated with antibiotics (or any other pharmaceutical compound), it is removed from the herd and its milk is not used. Absolutely no BGH or other hormone compounds are used on these cows. Top

     Q. What are some additional benefits of whey proteins?
     A. Immunocal bioactive whey protein has been clinically demonstrated to increase exercise capacity by 13 percent (Lands et al., 1999), and may be useful as a supplement for competitive athletes. Wattanabe et al. (Japan) conducted a clinical study with bioactive whey protein to evaluate increases in GSH among patients with Hepatitis B and C, and found that these viruses are vulnerable to glutathione. In-vitro studies in Japan also showed that whey can stimulate the bone cell (osteoblasts) to produce more bone, hence increasing bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Lactalbumin from whey protein has been demonstrated to kill breast cancer cells in vitro (in a test-tube). Glutathione (from whey protein) lowers serum cholesterol by stimulating bile synthesis in the liver. In addition, glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that will prevent lipid peroxidation (a sign of free radical activity). Lipid peroxidation is implicated in arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), stroke and coronary artery disease. Because neither bioactive whey protein nor glutathione is a drug, no disease treatment claims can be made on the basis of these studies.      Q. What is the theoretical mechanism of action of GLUTATHIONE in Cancer and Immune dysfunction?
     A. Natural killer (Immune) cells may become glutathione-depleted over time, and immune response weakens. Bioactive whey protein raises glutathione levels and strengthens the immune system. The immuine system is the body's first line of defense against cancer, viruses, bacteria, etc. For those patients receiving traditional medical therapy for their cancer, bioactive whey protein supplies lactalbumin and has been clinically proven to raise glutathione levels. Glutathione and lactalbumin (a component of bioactive whey protein) have been associated with the strengthening of healthy cells and (paradoxically) the weakening of cancerous cells. In research conducted by C. Svanborg et al, lactalbumin was associated with apoptosis (or the programmed death) of breast cancer cells. Glutathione has been scientifically demonstrated to decrease cancerous cells' resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs, while protecting healthy cells. This would theoretically allow a patient to respond better to chemotherapy with less side effects. Because neither bioactive whey protein, lactalbumin, nor glutathione is a drug, no disease treatment claims can be made on the basis of these studies. Top

     Q. What are the diseases or conditions that have been associated with low glutathione levels?
     A. Most of the autoimmune and degenerative diseases of aging including: Acetaminophen poisoning, ADD, Addison's Disease, aging, AIDS, Alopecia Areata, ALS, Alzheimers' Disease, anemia (hemolytic), Ankylosing Spondylitis, Arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), arthritis (rheumatoid), asthma, autism, autoimmune disease, Behcet's Disease, burns, cacexia, cancer, candida infection, cardiomyopathy (idiopathic), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, colitis, coronary artery disease, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, Crohn's disease, eczema, emphysema, Epstein Barr Viral (EBV) syndrome, fibromyalgia, free radical overload, Goodpasture Syndrome, Graves' Disease, hepatic dysfunction (liver disease), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol), herpes, infections (viral, bacterial and fungal), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), lupus, macular degeneration (diabetic macular degeneration), malnutrition, Meniere's disease, multiple sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis, neurodegenerative diseases, nutritional disorders, Parkinson's disease, Pemphigus Vulgaris, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, progeria, psoriasis, Rheumatic Fever, Sarcoidosis, scleroderma, shingles, stroke, surgery, toxic poisoning, trauma, vasculitis, vitiligo, and Wegener's Granulomatosis. No disease treatment claims can be made for glutathione on the basis of glutathione deficiency in these diseases. Top

     Q. Has therapy to increase glutathione levels been effective in treating the diseases or conditions that have been associated with low glutathione levels?
     A. See: Medline Search Page (replace the 5 Xs with the name of the disease you want to research). Please remember that because glutathione is not a prescription drug (except the injectable form) no disease treatment claims can be made for glutathione on the basis of glutathione deficiency in these diseases.

     Q. Can a person who is lactose intolerant take Immunocal bioactive whey protein?
     A. Yes, certain brands. Immunocal bioactive whey protein has less than 1% lactose which should not cause any ill effect even in the most severe case of lactose intolerance.

     Q. Can a person who is intolerant of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) take bioactive whey protein?
     A. Yes, Immunocal bioactive whey protein has NO added MSG (trace amounts may occur naturally) which should not cause any ill effect in people with an MSG intolerance. Bioactive whey protein contains the following amount of glutamic acid by weight: 180 mg/gram. There is therefore 1.8 grams of glutamic acid in a 10 gram packet of bioactive whey protein. Every single protein on the earth contains glutamic acid, and glutamic acid is required for good health. Glutamic acid is an amino acid formed in the digestion of ALL proteins (including wheat gluten and meat). It is the only amino acid metabolized by the brain. Glutamic acid is necessary in human nutrition but can usually be manufactured by the body in adequate amounts. That means that our own body produces it. In certain disease states, deficient diet, malnutrition, and in certain metabolic abnormalities this amino acid becomes conditionally essential. Glutamic Acid's sodium salt, is monosodium glutamate, and ALL proteins may contain naturally occurring trace amounts of MSG. In summary, bioactive whey protein would not supply any more glutamic acid than a serving of steak or other similar protein. There is NO added MSG in bioactive whey protein, and its supplementation should not cause a medical problem in a persons sensitive to MSG. Top

     Q. Are there any interactions known between supplements such as coenzyme Q-10, antioxidant vitamins, or herbs and bioactive whey protein?
     A. No, there are no known potential or reported interactions between bioactive whey protein and nutritional supplements. In fact, bioactive whey protein increases glutathione levels, which helps to improve the action of antioxidant vitamins (which are less effective if your glutathione levels are impaired). For this reason, mega-doses of antioxidant vitamins (i.e. doses in excess of 10 times the RDA of these vitamins) are not required or recommended if you are supplementing with Immunocal bioactive whey protein. As we age, our glutathione levels fall precipitously like a down-hill ski-slope. Low levels of glutathione are associated with a host of degenerative diseases, and critically low levels of serum and tissue glutathione often predict that death is imminent. Supplementation with bioactive whey protein helps restore these precious glutathione levels, and helps the supplemental vitamins we are taking to work more effectively to maintain optimum health! Because neither bioactive whey protein, nor glutathione is a drug, no disease treatment claims can be made on the basis of these findings. Top

     Q. Are there any interactions known between prescription medications and Immunocal bioactive whey protein?
     A. No, there are no known interactions between bioactive whey protein and prescription drugs. Bioactive whey protein is composed of the same basic proteins which are found in human breast milk, and should be considered to be as safe to take as mothers' breast milk. Furthermore, bioactive whey protein is 90% protein, and is one of the best sources of highly-absorbable protein on the planet. Patients taking immunosuppressant drugs such as Cyclosporin® should consult their physician before taking bioactive whey protein. Top

     Q. Are there any side effects associated with bioactive whey protein?
     A. Bioactive whey protein increases serum and liver glutathione levels. When liver glutathione levels rise, the liver is able to more effectively detoxify the body (which is a beneficial function of bioactive whey protein). Some people (especially those who have been exposed to high levels of environmental toxins) may have a mild temporary reaction to these mobilized toxins as the liver is removing them from storage in body fat. Typically, reducing the dose of bioactive whey protein will allow these temporary side effects to quickly disappear. Bioactive whey protein is composed of the same basic proteins that are found in human breast milk, and has the same side effect profile as mothers' breast milk. Because bioactive whey protein is a milk protein, persons who are mildly allergic to milk proteins may experience minor gastric distress from bioactive whey protein. This gastric distress usually disappears if you reduce the dose. Persons with serious milk-protein allergies should not take bioactive whey protein Top

     Q. Can you overdose bioactive whey protein? Is there any potential for toxicity if you take too much?
     A. Your greatest risk is wasting your money if you take "too much" bioactive whey protein, since it is relatively expensive. Scientific data suggests that there is limited benefit from exceeding 3 grams per day (3 packets per day) of bioactive whey protein. Because our cells have an innate mechanism of "feed-back inhibition" with respect to the glutathione synthesis precursors (building blocks) provided by bioactive whey protein, there is no potential for making "too much glutathione" within the cell if large quantities of bioactive whey protein are consumed. Bioactive whey protein supplementation will result in establishment of normal glutathione levels, (NOT excessive glutathione levels) within the cell. Excess bioactive whey protein would be metabolized as protein (whey protein is an excellent source of protein, containing 90% protein by dry weight). Top

     Q. Because Immunocal bioactive whey protein is 90% protein, is it contraindicated in patients on renal dialysis who must limit protein intake?
     A. No, bioactive whey protein is not contraindicated in these patients. Although we suggest that you consult your personal physician with medical questions such as these, there is no reason to believe that bioactive whey protein would be harmful in these patients. Bioactive whey protein is one of the most easily digested and most easily absorbed forms of protein in the diet. Its Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER: a mark of the quality of a protein) is extremely high, and in conditions such as renal failure where protein intake must be limited, it is most prudent to consume the highest quality proteins such as whey proteins and egg white proteins, versus lower quality proteins that produce more problematic metabolic waste by-products and residues.

     Q. Is bioactive whey protein contraindicated in Celiac Sprue disease?
     A. No. These patients are usually instructed not ingest wheat or gluten. There is no wheat, or gluten found naturally in bioactive whey protein. Furthermore, at least one brand of bioactive whey protein (Immunocal) is lactose-free. There is no reason to believe that that Immunocal bioactive whey protein would be detrimental in patients with Celiac Sprue. Top

     Q. Who should not take the product?
     A. People with an allergy specifically to milk protein, (which is very rare). NOTE: Please understand that lactose intolerance is NOT a milk allergy. Also, anyone who has had an organ transplant and is receiving immunosuppressant therapy should not take bioactive whey protein unless instructed to do so by his or her physician or another health care professional. The immune system needs to be suppressed in order to prevent organ rejection, and bioactive whey protein may counteract immunosuppressant medicines such as cyclosporin®.

     Q. What are some of the critical ingredients in a daily amount of Immunocal bioactive whey protein (1 pouch)?
     A. 9 grams or 90% Protein, 0 Fat, less than 0% Lactose, 60 mg of Calcium, 4 micrograms of Selenium, 30 Mg of Potassium, 0.05 mg of Iron, and approximately 40 Calories. Top

     Q. What is the recommended dose for taking Immunocal bioactive whey protein?
     A. Check with your physician or health care professional. If you do not have a documented glutathione deficiency and are taking bioactive whey protein to maintain good health, one pack per day is not unreasonable. Generally, most studies conducted using bioactive whey protein in patients with glutathione deficiencies used at least 20 grams per day (2 pouches), and some studies showed increased effectiveness using up to 30 grams (3 pouches) per day. Most people use 2 boxes per month (this provides 2 pouches, or 20 grams per day per month).

     Q. What is the recommended intake of protein for an average adult per day? A. 50-60 grams of protein. Three packets of bioactive whey protein would provide 50% of this recommended daily intake. Top

     Q. What is the difference in taking Immunocal bioactive whey protein as opposed to taking antioxidants?
     A. Vitamin E and C are important antioxidants, and you should consider these important supplements in your diet. Bioactive whey protein is not an antioxidant per se, but provides the building blocks for the synthesis of glutathione, which is THE principle intra-cellular antioxidant. Glutathione is the most potent cellular antioxidant known to man, and is hundreds of times more potent than vitamin C or vitamin E. For this reason, glutathione has been called the "Super Antioxidant". By raising the glutathione level within our bodies we provide for the optimum functioning of other lesser antioxidants such as vitamins C and E. More importantly, glutathione serves as a detoxifying agent for multiple toxins that we encounter on a daily basis through the environment and medications we are exposed to. Glutathione has been demonstrated to act as an effective protectant against ultraviolet radiation, which is important in view of the continued loss of the ozone layer. Top

     Q. How much does Immunocal bioactive whey protein cost?
     A. Immunocal is available from the manufacturer or manufacturer's representatives for as little as $59.40/box.

     Q. Is there a test to determine if my glutathione levels are low?
     A. Yes. We know of a licensed laboratory that charges only $40 for this test. DISCLAIMER: We are NOT associated with this laboratory, nor do we receive ANY reimbursement from recommending their services.

     Q. Is Immunocal bioactive whey protein listed in the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR)?
     A. Yes. Immunocal bioactive whey protein produced from organic USA cow's milk and manufactured and processed in the United States is the ONLY nutritional product sold by direct sales to be listed in the prestigious PDR, which is also frequently called the "physician's bible", and is owned and consulted by virtually every physician in the USA and world-wide! Physicians have relied on the PDR for up-to-date information on prescription drugs for over 50 years. The PDR is considered the standard prescription drug reference and is found in virtually every physician's office. Although this brand of bioactive whey protein does NOT require a prescription, it's inclusion in the PDR is a result of recognition by the medical community, of the extensive clinical data supporting it's effectiveness, and as a result of it's recognition by Medicare and Medicaid as reimbursable. The publisher of the PDR, Medical Economics, also produces a smaller companion volume for non-prescription drugs and herbal medicines. This volume may contain references to other bioactive whey proteins and other nutritional supplements. Top

     Q. What is the best way to mix Immunocal?
     A. Because bioactive whey protein is a very fine and delicate powder, the manufacturer recommends mixing it with water or any juice or liquid that is not above lukewarm (less than 110 degrees F, and NEVER above 120 degrees F) temperature. First, mix the packet with approx. 1 tablespoon of the liquid you have chosen to form a paste. Second, now pour the liquid to fill your glass. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, stir, and enjoy. It can also be mixed in applesauce, yogurt, or sprinkled over cereal without any particular mixing procedure. The product CANNOT be mixed in a blender (mechanical mixing damages the milk proteins). You must stir by hand, or you can purchase an inexpensive "vortex-mixer".

     Q. How can I order Immunocal?
     A. The most economical way is to select "ImmunoDirect monthly autoship program". You will get the lowest discount and can cancel at any time--even the following week--without penalty or obligation. Most folks chose to continue to receive Immunocal on a monthly basis, conveniently shipped to their home the same time each month. Top

Dr. Jimmy Gutman, MD - " - "Healthy people benefit from elevated glutathione levels through an enhanced ability to fight off toxins, infectious disease, pre-cancerous cells and the aging process itself. Many world-class athletes are discovering that well-maintained glutathione levels give them the edge over their competitors, bringing greater strength and endurance, decreased recovery time from injury, less muscle pain and fatigue, and muscle-promoting activity."

Patrick J.D. Bouic, Ph.D - "No other antioxidant is as important to overall health as glutathione. It is the regenerator of immune cells and the most valuable detoxifying agent in the body. Low levels are associated with early aging and even death."
Glutathione has three important functions: It serves as an Antioxidant, an Immune system enhancer and a Detoxifier.

  • As an antioxidant, glutathione (often abbreviated as GSH) is the most powerful antioxidant that protects against free radical damages or “oxidative stresses,” which have been implicated in a number of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and even the negative effects of aging.
  • As an immune system enhancer, glutathione is needed for the proper functioning, and in particular the creation and maintenance, of T-cells lymphocytes, the body’s front-line defense against infection.
  • As a detoxifier, dozens of toxins are eliminated by the glutathione enzyme system, including heavy metals, cigarette smoke, fuel exhaust and other carcinogens
  • Immunocal®  GLUTATHIONE PRECURSOR (undenatured whey protein isolate) Powder Sachets - As presented on page 1563 in the 2001 Physician's Desk Reference.  IMMUNOCAl® is a U.S. patented natural food protein concentrate which assists the body in maintaining optimal concentrations of glutathione (GSH) by supplying the precursors required for intracellular glutathione synthesis. These precursors are derived from a specially prepared bovine whey protein isolate. Glutathione (L-gammaglutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine) is the major endogenous antioxidant produced by the cell. Glutathione participates directly in the neutralization of free radicals, reactive oxygen compounds, and maintains exogenous antioxidants such as vitamins C and E in their reduced (active) forms. In addition, through direct conjugation, glutathione plays a role in the detoxification of many xenobiotics (foreign compounds) both organic and inorganic. Glutathione is an essential component of the human immune response. Proposed mechanisms of immune enhancement include:

       1. optimizing macrophage functions,
       2. offsetting oxidative damage associated with lymphocyte monoclonal expansion, and
       3. stabilizing the mitochondrial membrane thereby, reducing apoptosis in lymphocytes.

Utilization of Glutathione GSH. Research has shown that individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Research shows that GSH levels (glutathione) decline by 8% to 12% per decade, beginning at the age of 20. Levels of glutathione are further reduced by continual stress upon the immune system such as illness, infection, and environmental toxins. As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease. This is a ferocious cycle. While you need glutathione for a productive immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione. Supplements Containing Glutathione Alone Will NOT Increase The Body’s GSH Levels. It is pointless to purchase supplements that merely contain glutathione, because the digestive system breaks down ingested glutathione and it will not be absorbed into your system. On the other hand, Immunocal provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body's own ability to manufacture and absorb glutathione. Immunocal also aids in liver support by destroying environmental poisons helping the liver to function as the main production site and storehouse for glutathione. The Roles of Glutathione GSH in People and Animals

Glutathione (GSH) is the body’s own health “AID to Energy”– Antioxidant, Immune Booster, Detoxifier and Energy enhancer. This small protein, produced naturally in the body, supports these four crucial functions. In fact, your life depends upon glutathione. Without it, your cells would Unlike unnatural detoxification supplements, the use of Glutathione is a natural process that allows our body to perform its filtering capability organically and comfortably. Many herbs that detoxify will also deplete – Glutathione inherently builds and nourishes. Glutathione Immunocal is a critical element for good health, strong immune function, cancer prevention and the slowing of the aging process. Basically, increasing Glutathione levels enhances life.disintegrate from unrestrained oxidation, your body would have little resistance to bacteria, viruses and cancer, and your liver would cease functioning from the accumulation of toxins. Medical science has described literally dozens of roles that glutathione plays in your body. However, the four most important roles of glutathione can be summarized by the acronym:

    A I D = E2  These letters stand for:

        * Antioxidant
        * Immune support
        * Detoxifier
        * Energy

    A –  “Your Master Antioxidant”
Over the past thirty years, advances in the study of antioxidants have grown to the point that a whole new branch of medicine has developed called “Free Radical Biology” which focuses on oxidant/antioxidant balance. Scientists have elaborated upon several hundred different disease processes where antioxidants play a vital role. The shelves of natural food stores and pharmacies are laden with a large array of different antioxidants offered. However, although these antioxidants, including vitamin C and vitamin E, are usually “natural”, they are not natural to your body. If you do not ingest these vitamins, they will not be found in your cells naturally. Given the importance of antioxidation in hundreds of different disease processes, one poses the question – “What The level of Glutathione in our cells is predictive of how long we will live. Every moment Glutathione is defending our body against attacks from disease, toxins, poisons, viruses, pollutants, radiation and oxidative stress.antioxidant does the body manufacture to ward off these processes?” Glutathione is the most abundantly produced antioxidant in the body. In fact, the presence of this small protein is crucial for the functioning of all of the other known antioxidants, gaining the title “Master Antioxidant”.

I–  “Food for the Immune System”
Your immune system is constantly on the prowl for pathogens and foreign antigens—agents of cellular damage, toxicity and disease. These antigens include viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and even pre-cancerous cells. To neutralize these pathogens, the body needs a ready supply of glutathione. If it doesn’t have enough, some of the invaders will get through, infecting the body and/or contributing to aging, long-term accumulative damage—even eventual cancers. We can’t avoid illness and aging altogether, but by keeping our intracellular glutathione levels elevated, we also keep our immune system on full alert and fully armed. Dr. Gustavo Bounous, discoverer of Immunocal, has focused on glutathione as support for the immune system. “ The limiting factor for the proper activity and multiplication of our lymphocytes (white blood cells) is the availability of glutathione”, he states. Dr. Bounous’ research at McGill University has spawned countless other research papers worldwide examining this phenomenon.

    D–  Detoxification System”
Hundreds of toxins are eliminated by the GSH enzyme system, including drug breakdown products, pollutants, carcinogens and radiation damage. It’s no surprise that GSH concentrations are highest in the liver, the body’s major detoxifying organ. We inhale and ingest natural and synthetic toxins every day of our lives and can’t possibly avoid them, especially in our technological era with congested and polluted cities and bio-engineered food supplies. Experimental studies have shown that low glutathione levels lead to poor liver and kidney function, and result in unnecessarily large quantities of toxins circulating through the body. There, they continuously damage individual cells and organs. The list of toxins eliminated include cigarette smoke, automobile exhaust and heavy metals. Physicians regularly use drugs to elevate glutathione levels in critical illnesses like acetaminophen overdose and severe liver failure.

    E2-   “Energize Yourself”
Our cells are like little machines, running 24 hours a day. Where does the energy to fuel this constant activity come from? The answer is quite complicated but science had identified tiny structures within our cells called “mitochondria” which serve as tiny batteries inside the cell. Like any source of fuel, inevitably burning and waste products are a result. The mitochondria literally burn up oxygen and as a result are prone to overload and damage and are limited in their ability to continue working unless these breakdown products like oxyradicals are removed. The major substance produced by the cell to keep these mitochondria “cool” and efficient is glutathione. This translates into more energy and more strength. Raising glutathione has become a focus for many studies from sports medicine to anti-aging for this reason.

What Causes Us to LOSE Glutathione (GSH)?

Every day our bodies are exposed to factors that drain our levels of glutathione: Stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet, aging, injury and fatigue. These all contribute to glutathione depletion which, in turn, leads to cellular aging, disease and death. “Concern about maintaining one’s glutathione level will eventually be on par with other health maintenance issues.” says Dr. Bounous.

    Glutathione Research

In the last twenty years the volume of research into GSH has grown immensely. A huge variety of theoretical papers, bench-top laboratory experiments, epidemiological studies, animal projects and—most importantly—clinical trials on humans, has linked glutathione to an extraordinary variety of illnesses. Skeptics might doubt the length of the list were it not for the strength and credibility of the research. Much of the research on glutathione and the immune system was pioneered by Dr. Gustavo Bounous (the discoverer of Immunocal) and Dr. Wulf Dröge (developer of Immunocal Platinum®) who combined, have published hundreds of medical articles. A significant number of these papers have served as the foundation for many other studies and clinical trials on glutathione and immunology.

Eating Glutathione Will NOT Raise Your Body’s Glutathione Level

It is vital to clarify one particular aspect of the glutathione story. When people find out about GSH, they want to go to their health store, buy some and “take” it. Although it can be purchased as a supplement, eating glutathione has negligible effects on your health. It is quickly broken down in your digestive tract and eliminated. GSH must be manufactured within your cells, which is exactly where it is found—in every cell of your body. The only way to accomplish this effectively is to give your body the building blocks (precursors) it needs to manufacture glutathione for itself.      TO ORDER PRODUCTS, OR TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE CONTACT THE PERSON WHO RERERRED YOU TO THIS WEBSITE

    How to Raise Glutathione
Some pharmaceutical drugs such as N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) have been developed to provide these precursors but there are also natural ways to raise glutathione levels. Vitamin C, E and selenium indirectly support glutathione function. Milk thistle (silymarin), alpha-lipoic acid and L-cysteine may have moderate effects. However, medical research indicates that the most effective natural way to raise glutathione is by feeding the individual specific cysteine and cystine-rich proteins as found in undenatured whey protein isolates. Through its unique formulation and proprietary manufacturing process, Immunocal is a nutraceutical containing undenatured whey proteins designed to raise glutathione. In fact, it is the only protein patented to raise glutathione levels naturally. This type of natural approach to addressing health concerns is a welcome complement to conventional medicine, which has historically marginalized nutritional therapy. The key in bridging this gap between traditional medicine and natural medicine lies in appropriately formulating supplements based on solid research.

Glutathione is a small protein produced naturally in every cell of our body. It is made up of three protein building blocks, called amino acids. These are cysteine, glyceine, & glutamic acid. Your body produces glutathione inside every cell of your body, or that cell would quickly die. The levels of glutathione produced naturally is enough to keep the body working optimally under 'normal' conditions. Increasing levels of environmental pollutants and prolonged exposure to stress are depleting your body’s stores of glutathione increasingly fast.

The liver uses glutathione to process; alcohol, caffeine, medications, nicotine as an example, to process such substances and remove them from the blood. It also helps in the filtering of alcohol and other toxic substances from the blood. It helps in the processing of drugs and medications absorbed through the digestive system,, enabling the body to use them effectively and ultimately dispose of them. Reduced glutathione plays a critical role in the cellular detoxification processes including the metabolism of peroxides, the conjugation with electrophils and the scavenging of the free radicals. The relevance of glutathione in ethanol metabolism consists mainly in compensating for alcohol-related oxidative stress. Glutathione acts as a detoxifying agent by combining with undesirable substances and ridding the body of them through urine and bile .

White blood cells are the body’s major defense system. They need glutathione in order to *function *properly. By raising the levels of GSH glutathione, the body's master's antioxidant, the body can produce more white blood cells Glutathione depletion will eventually exhaust any ability of the white blood cells to keep fighting, which means: You loose the battle.

"The liver is the major storehouse for glutathione. Glutathione is impaired in alcoholic hepatitis as well as in viral hepatitis A, B, and C. Raised glutathione levels restore liver function." - American Journal of Gasteroenterology 91: 2569-2573, 1996

The presence of glutathione is required to maintain the normal function of the immune system. It is known to play a critical role in the multiplication of lymphocytes (the cells that mediate specific immunity), which occurs in the development of an effective immune response. Glutathione binds itself to toxins in the body transforming them into a form that can be easily collected and extracted. Glutahthione has also shown promise when used in connection with some forms of cancer. In both preliminary research and test tube and animal studies, glutathione has shown to exhibit anti-cancer effects. Higher glutathione levels have also been found in older adults with exceptionally good health."Glutathione detoxifies a variety of pollutants, carcinogens and poisons, including many found in fuel exhaust and cigarette smoke. It also retards damage from radiation exposure due to the eroding ozone layer" . - Annual Reviews of Biochemistry 52: 711-760 1983

    Glutathione and Cancer
Robert O. Young D.Sc., Ph.D - "In the last ten years, over 25,000 medical articles about this substance have been published, and the scientific understanding of glutathione is gradually becoming common knowledge. Each and every cell in the body is responsible for its own supply of glutathione and must have the necessary raw materals in order to produce it. Glutathione is always in great demand and is rapidly consumed when we experience any sort of emotional or physical stress, fatigue and even moderate exercise "

The Role of Glutathione in Aging and Cancer   ---  PubMed.gov
"The incidence and mortality rates from most cancers increase exponentially with age. It is likely that this aging phenomenon is partially due to specific changes that occur in the host resulting in an increased susceptibility to neoplasia. Our hypothesis is that one such host factor is a deficiency in GSH [Note: GSH is the medical abbreviation for reduced glutathione], based on the importance of this compound in the detoxification of a wide variety of exogenous and endogenous carcinogens and free radicals, as well as in the maintenance of immune function."  Animal study on the effect of glutathione on oral carcinogenesis

Joan Amtoft-Nielsen, MD, PhD, DC  - "Most cancer patients suffer from nutritional deficiencies before diagnosis and even more so during the early conventional treatment of their disease, since chemotherapeutic agents affect levels of such nutrients as glutathione, vitamin B6, vitamin E and beta carotene.  Inappropriate foods consumed during the course of disease may linger in the body longer since they are improperly digested, absorbed and excreted.  The greater the body’s toxicity, the lower the functioning of the immune system." High blood glutathione levels accompany excellent physical and mental health in women ages 60 to 103 years

"Earlier we found a high percentage of subnormal total glutathione (G(T)) levels in blood from elderly subjects and patients with chronic diseases. These findings suggested a hypothesis that high levels of G(T) in the blood occur in old persons who are in excellent physical and mental health. To this end, we recruited 87 white women who ranged in age from 60 to 103 years and reported that they felt healthy. Their health was verified with physical examinations, clinical chemistry profiles, psychosocial assessments, and blood G(T) determinations. This evaluation was performed in three waves over a 5-year period. The values were compared with those from representative individuals in this region and with normal national data. The results verified that these healthy subjects were in top physical and mental health. We also found that subjects of all ages had very high blood G(T) levels in waves I and II but only normal levels in wave III. These findings confirm that high blood G(T) concentrations and excellent physical and mental health are characteristics of long-lived women." Glutathione/Immunocal in Veterinary Medicine

The key to self-healing is a strong defense system, which protects dogs, cats, and horses  from everything from the flu germs to cancer cells.  Holistic veterinarians believe that a weak immune system plays a key role in causing disease.  Antibiotics fight infection, but they don't affect whatever weakened the immune system in the first place. Low cellular levels of Glutathione and T-Cells are directly related to multiple colds, fluenza severity, allergies, sinus infections, auto-immune diseases and immune system dysfunction. Higher cellular levels of T-Cells improve immune response and disease rejection. Immunocal is verified to increase cellular levels of Glutathione.

    Immunocal and horses

"I gave 3 packets each to 2 mares with huge problems with flies.  I left the other 3 horses without any immunocal.  I didn't notice huge effects right off, but then did today (5 days after finishing the 3rd packet).  The mare and colt who did not get Immunocal were covered with flies around their faces.  The mare who did get the Immunocal (and she is the one who is usually totally chewed up by flies and mosquitos), had a few flies around her that landed and left.  Will now give it to the others and see if they "loose" their flies.  Also, my black mare who suffers badly from no see ums, has quieted and seems much more comfortable." Letter of testimonial for “Immunocal” for our dog, "Max"!

My name is Tony Luboff.  I reside in Ojai, California with my wife and two children.  The other very important member of our family is Max, a five year old yellow Labrador Retriever.  He is very much loved by all of us, which is why I have put together this letter.  About five months ago, Max became ill, but at the time we did not realize just how ill.  He grew progressively listless, refusing to eat and/or play with the children or us. He was coughing and choking four to five times an hour.  This was totally uncharacteristic of a very active and most of the time “hungry dog”.

We took him to our Veterinarian, Dr. Tony Kirk on July 21st.  Dr. Kirk thought that Max possibly had a foxtail in his throat but could not find one.  Because his throat looked infected, he was put on antibiotics.  After two rounds of antibiotics he was worse, so we checked for heartworms, and just about everything else in the book.  At this point Dr. Kirk suggested that a Xray should be done on Max. On August 14th  the Xray was done and we were dismayed to learn that Max was loaded with cancer, particularly in the area of his lungs. There were two large tumors wrapped around the bronchials that were pinching off his esophagus.  This is why he was coughing so much. The choking off of his esophagus was also making it hard for him to eat. He  had not been eating for some time and was losing weight rapidly.  The vet said that he would likely have only a few short painful weeks to live.

We told the Vet about Immunocal and we were amazed that he knew about glutathione.  He said that if we had something that could raise glutathione levels then, by all means, use it.  In the first two weeks we almost had to shove food down Max's throat and he was still throwing up quite a bit. We tried to get at least one packet a  day into his system.  Eventually however, he was taking his food with a lot of encouragement.

That was over three and a half months ago and we are happy to say that Max is still with us and with much improved health. His constant coughing and choking have completely stopped; he has gained back the 12 lbs. of weight that he had lost and we have noticed a marked increase in his energy level and appetite.  Numerous friends have commented on the fact that Max appears much better and  is still around instead of being dead, which of course is where he was supposed to be. On Thursday, November 19th we took Max back to the Vet and he was truly amazed.  He accused us of bringing in a different dog! He said that all the congestion that he heard in his heart and lungs before are completely gone.

We have done nothing else other than give Max this Whey protein immune system booster called “Immunocal”.  To say that we recommend this product would be an understatement.  Thank you Dr. Bounous and Chuck Roberts for bringing us Immunocal !!

    Sincerely,

    Tony Luboff

    April 28, 1999

    Good morning,

At your request I have prepared a chronological report on your dog, Max. Just for the records Max is a neutered male, yellow Lab that was born in 1993. I first saw Max on 7/20/98. At that time his weight was 92.8 pounds and was presented to me a possible foxtail in his throat. His temperature was 103.0 degrees F. at that time. Throat examination revealed no foxtail or foxtail tracts. My concern, at that time, was for tracheal bronchitis. Max was injected with amoxicillin and vetalog. He was sent home on oral amoxicillin for 10 days. On 7/22/98, it was reported that he was still coughing but not as much.

Max was seen again on 8/4/98 with a history of the cough worsening and a temperature of 102.8 degrees F. Max had lost 4.6 pounds and was coughing much worse after exercising. The heart and lungs sounds were normal at that time. A Heartworm test was ordered and Max was scheduled for a throat probe the following day.

The Heartworm test was negative and, Max was dropped off for the scheduled check. A pre-anaesthetic panel was performed. The results are as follows: BUN 15, Blood Glucose 80, Total Protein 7.4, PCV 42. Max was anaesthesied and the throat was explored. During the exploration, no foreign bodies were found. The tonsils were normal and, with the exception of a greenish colored material at the beginning of the trachea and some irritation and redness of the trachea itself; the throat was normal.

On 8/14/98, Max was readmitted for radiographs. The history, at that time, was a decreased appetite and the weight had dropped to 83.7 pounds. The cough had worsened. Max was sedated and two 14 x 17 radiographs were taken of the lungs. The lung fields were congested and a tentative diagnosis of lung cancer or possible a fungal infection was made. Due to the poor prognosis of either diagnosis’s, no treatment was advised. On a “call back” on 8/18/98 it was reported that Max was no better but he was no worse. It was reported that he was eating better.

During a telephone conversation on 10/22/98 it was reported that Max’s symptoms were gone and that he was doing much, much better. I saw Max again on l1/19/98. His weight had increased to 95.9 pounds, his heart and lung sounds were normal and he seemed to have regained his health. At last report, Max has completely recovered. I hope this helps with your project and that ole Max keeps on “ticking”. If I can be of any further help, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards, I am,
    Tony L. Kirk, D.VM

Metabolism and Functions of Glutathione (GSH)

The oxygen we breathe helps to burn sugar and fat inside our body cells to produce energy. But about 2% of the converted oxygen remains as highly reactive molecules that modify, disrupt and impair the stable structure within our body. These are called “free radicals.” If free radicals are not neutralized, cell membranes breakdown and DNA is damaged, resulting in a compromised immune system, disease and rapid aging. Many environmental and ingested agents spur free radical production – air pollution, pesticides, radiation, alcohol, sugar, cigarette smoke, illegal drugs and prescription medications. To combat the hostile effect of free radicals, our bodies use antioxidants (free radical scavengers) that extinguish the biochemical fire. Bruce Ames, Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, estimates that every single one of our cells suffers from 10,000 hits by free radicals daily.

Glutathione is used more than any other antioxidant in the body, and is the most abundant natural antioxidant that protects our vision, boosts the immune system, helps turn carbohydrates into energy and prevents the buildup of oxidized fats that contribute to heart disease. Glutathione supports us at the cellular level by protecting every cell of the body, but our levels decline dramatically with age. Our bodies are constantly replacing and repairing free-radical damaged cells, but the demands of the modern age have created high levels of free radicals with limited supplies of Glutathione to correct the damage. Without Glutathione, other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E cannot perform their functions adequately to protect the body against disease.

Glutathione for Health and Energy - The biochemical importance of glutathione is reviewed in the 2002 book by Jimmy Gutman, MD10 titled, Glutathione, Your Body’s Most Powerful Protector. Dr. Gutman points out that glutathione Immunocal is not only our body’s most powerful detoxifier of mercury and other toxins (including drugs like Tylenol/ acetaminophen), but it is also the most important molecule in our anti-oxidant network that protects us from the dangers of free radicals. The brain consumes about 20% of the oxygen utilized by the body but constitutes only 2% of the body weight and is therefore particularly susceptible to free radical attacks. Glutathione acts to prevent and protect the brain from the damage of free radicals.Glutathione protects both the mother and the developing fetus from the damaging effects of free radicals, and minimizes the oxidative stress that occurs during labor and the birth process. The placenta contains a significant amount of glutathione to filter pollutants before they reach the baby.

In the last 75 years, clean and healthy food supplies have been replaced by sugar, processed food, chemicals, genetically altered fruit and vegetables, chemical and hormone laced dairy products, hormone and preservative laden meats, high saturated fats with sugar and thousands of medications. There are tens of thousands of confirmed toxic substances in our environment and as a result, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, allergies and mental health issues are rampant. By age 20 we are losing Glutathione at 8-12% per decade. But compromised health and excessive use of medications can deplete the body more rapidly. Some scientists estimate that a 30% reduction of Glutathione is enough for cellular dysfunction to set in.

The liver is our ultimate cleaner and has two critical functions: to process nutrients and eliminate toxins from the body. It does this by filtering the blood at about two quarts a minute.  Approximately 25% of all the blood in the body is filtered through the liver at any one time. Some glutathione is released directly by the liver into the bloodstream where it helps to maintain the strength of red blood cells while also protecting the white blood cells. Large quantities of Glutathione are found in the liver where a two-stage detoxification process takes place. Phase One begins the chemical conversion of harmful compounds that are mainly fat-soluble into intermediate forms.  But Phase Two is where the final transformation takes place to converts the intermediate toxins into water-soluble substances that can be excreted thru the bowel or kidneys. Only water-soluble substances can be excreted. If there is not enough Glutathione to generate the Phase two enzymes, toxins will build to dangerous levels in the liver.

Unlike unnatural detoxification supplements, the use of Glutathione is a natural process that allows our body to perform its filtering capability organically and comfortably.  Many herbs that detoxify will also deplete – Glutathione inherently builds and nourishes. Glutathione is a critical element for good health, strong immune function, cancer prevention and the slowing of the aging process.  Basically, increasing Glutathione levels enhances life.

Robert Kiyosaki - "Network marketing is at its core a relationship business. It’s about establishing relationships, coaching and training, and teaching and mentoring. The actual day-to-day work of building a network is less like carving out a sales territory than it is like building a community. And the supporting, coaching, nurturing relationship of a network marketing sponsor to her growing network of apprentice networkers is the kind of relationship and interaction in which women excel". —Kim Kiyosaki

"Network marketing has been around in various forms since the middle of the last century. The basic idea is as simple as it is brilliant: Instead of spending tons of money on all sorts of professional agencies and marketing channels to promote products or services, why not pay the people who love them most to just tell others about them?" —John Fleming

The Business of the 21st Century

Robert Kiyosaki - "In 1994 I started researching the network marketing business in earnest. I went to every presentation I heard about and listened closely to everything I heard. Eventually I began meeting some of these companies’ leaders, and I was stunned to find that they were some of the most intelligent, kind, ethical, moral, spiritual, and professional people I had met in all my years of business". —Robert Kiyosaki
