The
Role of Glutathione in Health and Disease in People and Animals
Glutathione GSH Level
in Our Cells and Optimize The Immune System The most essential antioxidant of all
is not in a fruit, a vegetable, or a pill. It's already in your body! It
is glutathione.
Dr. Jimmy Gutman,
MD - “Your life depends on glutathione. Without it, your cells
would disintegrate from unrestrained oxidation, your body would have little
resistance to bacteria, viruses and cancer, and your liver would shrivel
up from the eventual accumulation of toxins. Glutathione levels also diminsh
as we age and many diseases normally associated with aging have been linked
to glutathione deficiency. Clinical evidence links low glutathione levels
to the most common illnesses of our time as well as newly emerging diseases.Because
all other antioxidants depend upon the presence of glutathione to function
properly, scientists call it ‘the master antioxidant’.Healthy people also
benefit from elevated glutathione levels through an enhanced ability to
fight off toxins, infectious disease, pre-cancerous cells and the aging
process itself. Many world-class athletes are discovering that well-maintained
glutathione levels give them the edge over their competitors, bringing
greater strength and endurance, decreased recovery time from injury, less
muscle pain and fatigue, and muscle-promoting activity.” Audio

Dr. Allan Somersall,
Ph.D., M.D. with Dr. Gustavo Bounous, M.D. - "Without
glutathione,
other important antioxidants such as vitamins C and E cannot do their job
adequately to protect your body against disease."
Patrick J.D. Bouic, Ph.D
- "No other antioxidant is as important to overall health as glutathione.
It is the regenerator of immune cells and the most valuable detoxifying
agent in the body. Low levels are associated with early aging and even
death."
The concentration of glutathione
declines with age and in some age-related diseases. Glutathione deficiency
contributes to oxidative
stress, which plays a key role in aging and the worsening of many diseases
including Alzheimer's disease, cancer, Parkinson's disease, heart attack,
liver disease, cystic fibrosis, HIV, AIDS, sickle cell anemia, and diabetes.
Glutathione has been described as a 'food for the immune system', enabling
the body to do its own healing. There are more than 76,000 medical articles
about it -- but most doctors don't know how to address the epidemic deficiency
of this critical life-giving molecule.
Dr. Paul Cheney -
"Glutathione has potent anti-viral properties - if you raise the glutathione
level you can stop the replication of most any, at least, intracellular
pathogen....but glutathione deficiency produces a pro-viral effect."
Over tens of thousands of
medical articles have highlighted the importance of Glutathione.

Glutathione Deficiency Can Cause Serious Health
Conditions
The level of Glutathione in our cells is predictive of how long we will
live. We need this miraculous antioxidant to survive, and without it, our
liver would soon become overwhelmed with the accumulation of toxins, resulting
in organ failure and death. Glutathione is manufactured by every one of
our trillions of cells and is one of the most important healing and cleansing
agents. Low glutathione levels are linked to diseases such as Cancer, Multiple
Sclerosis, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Atherosclerosis, pregnancy complications,
male infertility and Cataracts. Glutathione is continuously defending our
body against attacks from disease, toxins, poisons, viruses, pollutants,
radiation and oxidative
stress.
Every day our bodies are exposed to factors that drain our levels of
glutathione: Stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet,
aging, injury and fatigue. These all contribute to glutathione depletion
which, in turn, leads to cellular aging, disease and death. “Concern about
maintaining one’s glutathione level will eventually be on par with other
health maintenance issues.” says Dr. Bounous M.D.

Glutathione has three
important functions: It serves as an Antioxidant,
an Immune
system enhancer and a Detoxifier.
As an antioxidant, glutathione
(often abbreviated as GSH) is the most powerful antioxidant that protects
against free radical damages or “oxidative stresses,” which have been implicated
in a number of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and even
the negative effects of aging.
As an immune system enhancer,
glutathione is needed for the proper functioning, and in particular the
creation and maintenance, of T-cells lymphocytes, the body’s front-line
defense against infection.
As a detoxifier, dozens
of toxins are eliminated by the glutathione enzyme system, including heavy
metals, cigarette smoke, fuel exhaust and other carcinogens

Utilization of
Glutathione GSH. Research has shown that individuals who have low levels
of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Research shows that
GSH levels (glutathione) decline by 8% to 12% per decade, beginning at
the age of 20. Levels of glutathione are further reduced by continual stress
upon the immune system such as illness, infection, and environmental toxins.
As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease.
This is a ferocious cycle. While you need glutathione for a productive
immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione.
Supplements Containing Glutathione Alone Will NOT Increase The Body’s GSH
Levels. It is pointless to purchase supplements that merely contain glutathione,
because the digestive system breaks down ingested glutathione and it will
not be absorbed into your system. On the other hand, Glutamine
Prime provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body's own
ability to manufacture and absorb glutathione. Glutamine Prime also aids
in liver support by destroying environmental poisons helping the liver
to function as the main production site and storehouse for glutathione.

and emphysema. Newer potential therapeutic roles can be found for cigarette
smoke damage, pulmonary fibrosis and other illnesses." - American Journal

The Roles of Glutathione GSH
in People and Animals
Glutathione (GSH) is the body’s own health
“AID to Energy”– Antioxidant, Immune Booster, Detoxifier and Energy enhancer.
This small protein, produced naturally in the body, supports these four
crucial functions. In fact, your life depends upon glutathione. Without
it, your cells would disintegrate
from unrestrained oxidation, your body would have little resistance to
bacteria, viruses and cancer, and your liver would cease functioning from
the accumulation of toxins. Medical science has described literally dozens
of roles that glutathione plays in your body. However, the four most important
roles of glutathione can be summarized by the acronym:
A I D = E2 These
letters stand for:
* Antioxidant
* Immune support
* Detoxifier
* Energy
A – “Your
Master Antioxidant” Over the past thirty years, advances in the study of antioxidants have
grown to the point that a whole new branch of medicine has developed called
“Free Radical Biology” which focuses on oxidant/antioxidant balance. Scientists
have elaborated upon several hundred different disease processes where
antioxidants play a vital role. The shelves of natural food stores and
pharmacies are laden with a large array of different antioxidants offered.
However, although these antioxidants, including vitamin C and vitamin E,
are usually “natural”, they are not natural to your body. If you do not
ingest these vitamins, they will not be found in your cells naturally.
Given the importance of antioxidation in hundreds of different disease
processes, one poses the question – “What antioxidant
does the body manufacture to ward off these processes?” Glutathione is
the most abundantly produced antioxidant in the body. In fact, the presence
of this small protein is crucial for the functioning of all of the other
known antioxidants, gaining the title “Master Antioxidant”.
I– “Food
for the Immune System” Your immune system is constantly on the prowl for pathogens and foreign
antigens—agents of cellular damage, toxicity and disease. These antigens
include viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and even pre-cancerous cells.
To neutralize these pathogens, the body needs a ready supply of glutathione.
If it doesn’t have enough, some of the invaders will get through, infecting
the body and/or contributing to aging, long-term accumulative damage—even
eventual cancers. We can’t avoid illness and aging altogether, but by keeping
our intracellular glutathione levels elevated, we also keep our immune
system on full alert and fully armed.
D– “Detoxification
System” Hundreds of toxins are eliminated by the GSH
enzyme system, including drug breakdown products, pollutants, carcinogens
and radiation damage. It’s no surprise that GSH concentrations are highest
in the liver, the body’s major detoxifying organ. We inhale and ingest
natural and synthetic toxins every day of our lives and can’t possibly
avoid them, especially in our technological era with congested and polluted
cities and bio-engineered food supplies. Experimental studies have shown
that low glutathione levels lead to poor liver and kidney function, and
result in unnecessarily large quantities of toxins circulating through
the body. There, they continuously damage individual cells and organs.
The list of toxins eliminated include cigarette smoke, automobile exhaust
and heavy metals. Physicians regularly use drugs to elevate glutathione
levels in critical illnesses like acetaminophen overdose and severe liver
failure.
E2- “Energize
Yourself” Our cells are like little machines, running 24 hours a day. Where does
the energy to fuel this constant activity come from? The answer is quite
complicated but science had identified tiny structures within our cells
called “mitochondria” which serve as tiny batteries inside the cell. Like
any source of fuel, inevitably burning and waste products are a result.
The mitochondria literally burn up oxygen and as a result are prone to
overload and damage and are limited in their ability to continue working
unless these breakdown products like oxyradicals
are removed. The major substance produced by the cell to keep these mitochondria
“cool” and efficient is glutathione. This translates into more energy and
more strength. Raising glutathione has become a focus for many studies
from sports medicine to anti-aging for this reason.
What Causes Us to LOSE Glutathione (GSH)?
Every day our bodies are exposed to factors that drain our levels of
glutathione: Stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet,
aging, injury and fatigue. These all contribute to glutathione depletion
which, in turn, leads to cellular aging, disease and death. “Concern about
maintaining one’s glutathione level will eventually be on par with other
health maintenance issues.” says Dr. Bounous.
Glutathione Research
In the last twenty years the volume of research into GSH has grown immensely.
A huge variety of theoretical papers, bench-top laboratory experiments,
epidemiological
studies, animal projects and—most importantly—clinical trials on humans,
has linked glutathione to an extraordinary variety of illnesses. Skeptics
might doubt the length of the list were it not for the strength and credibility
of the research. Much of the research on glutathione and the immune system
was pioneered by Dr. Gustavo Bounous and Dr. Wulf Dröge who combined,
have published hundreds of medical articles. A significant number of these
papers have served as the foundation for many other studies and clinical
trials on glutathione and immunology.
Eating Glutathione Will NOT Raise
Your Body’s Glutathione Level
It is vital to clarify one particular aspect of the glutathione story.
When people find out about GSH, they want to go to their health store,
buy some and “take” it. Although it can be purchased as a supplement, eating
glutathione has negligible effects on your health. It is quickly broken
down in your digestive tract and eliminated. GSH must be manufactured within
your cells, which is exactly where it is found—in every cell of your body.
The only way to accomplish this effectively is to give your body the building
blocks (precursors) it needs to manufacture glutathione for itself.
Ask the person
who referred you to this website to tell you about the natural product
that can assist your body raise the glutathione level.
Glutathione is a small protein
produced naturally in every cell of our body. It is made up of three protein
building blocks, called amino acids. These are cysteine, glyceine, &
glutamic acid. Your body produces glutathione inside every cell of your
body, or that cell would quickly die. The levels of glutathione produced
naturally is enough to keep the body working optimally under 'normal' conditions.
Increasing levels of environmental pollutants and prolonged exposure to
stress are depleting your body’s stores of glutathione increasingly
fast.
The liver uses glutathione
to process; alcohol, caffeine, medications, nicotine as an example, to
process such substances and remove them from the blood. It also helps in
the filtering of alcohol and other toxic substances from the blood. It
helps in the processing of drugs and medications absorbed through the digestive
system,, enabling the body to use them effectively and ultimately dispose
of them. Reduced glutathione plays a critical role in the cellular detoxification
processes including the metabolism of peroxides, the conjugation with electrophils
and the scavenging of the free radicals. The relevance of glutathione in
ethanol metabolism consists mainly in compensating for alcohol-related
oxidative
stress.
Glutathione acts as a detoxifying agent by combining
with undesirable substances and ridding the body of them through urine
and bile .
White blood cells are the
body’s major defense system. They need glutathione in order to *function
*properly. By raising the levels of GSH glutathione, the body's master's
antioxidant, the body can produce more white blood cells Glutathione depletion
will eventually exhaust any ability of the white blood cells to keep fighting,
which means: You loose the battle.

as well as in viral hepatitis A, B, and C. Raised glutathione levels restore
liver function." - American Journal of Gasteroenterology 91: 2569-2573,
1996

Glutathione and Cancer
Robert O. Young
D.Sc., Ph.D - "In the last ten years, over 25,000 medical articles
about this substance have been published, and the scientific understanding
of glutathione is gradually becoming common knowledge. Each and every cell
in the body is responsible for its own supply of glutathione and must have
the necessary raw materals in order to produce it. Glutathione is always
in great demand and is rapidly consumed when we experience any sort of
emotional or physical stress, fatigue and even moderate exercise "
The
Role of Glutathione in Aging and Cancer
--- PubMed.gov "The incidence and mortality
rates from most cancers increase exponentially with age. It is likely that
this aging phenomenon is partially due to specific changes that occur in
the host resulting in an increased susceptibility to neoplasia. Our hypothesis
is that one such host factor is a deficiency in GSH [Note: GSH is the medical
abbreviation for reduced glutathione], based on the importance of this
compound in the detoxification of a wide variety of exogenous and endogenous
carcinogens and free radicals, as well as in the maintenance of immune
function." Animal study on the effect of glutathione
on oral carcinogenesis
Joan Amtoft-Nielsen, MD,
PhD, DC - "Most cancer patients suffer from nutritional deficiencies
before diagnosis and even more so during the early conventional treatment
of their disease, since chemotherapeutic agents affect levels of such nutrients
as glutathione, vitamin B6, vitamin E and beta carotene. Inappropriate
foods consumed during the course of disease may linger in the body longer
since they are improperly digested, absorbed and excreted. The greater
the body’s toxicity, the lower the functioning of the immune system." Dr.
Nielsen was a Medical Advisor for The National Foundation for Alternative
Medicine in Washington DC and currently serves on the Scientific Advisory
Board of the Journal of Longevity, on the Advisory Board of the C.A.R.E.S.
Foundation and on the Board of Governors for the South Carolina Naturopathic
Physicians Organization.
"Earlier we found a high
percentage of subnormal total glutathione (G(T)) levels in blood from elderly
subjects and patients with chronic diseases. These findings suggested a
hypothesis that high levels of G(T) in the blood occur in old persons who
are in excellent physical and mental health. To this end, we recruited
87 white women who ranged in age from 60 to 103 years and reported that
they felt healthy. Their health was verified with physical examinations,
clinical chemistry profiles, psychosocial assessments, and blood G(T) determinations.
This evaluation was performed in three waves over a 5-year
period. The values were compared with those from representative individuals
in this region and with normal national data. The results verified that
these healthy subjects were in top physical and mental health. We also
found that subjects of all ages had very high blood G(T) levels in waves
I and II but only normal levels in wave III. These findings confirm that
high blood G(T) concentrations and excellent physical and mental health
are characteristics of long-lived women." Department of Biochemistry, University

Glutathione:
Blood Sugar Level, Thyroid Health Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide
formed from glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. Combined with vitamin
E and selenium, glutathione forms glutathione peroxidase (GPx) which is
one of the key antioxidants that protects the body and is critical for
protection
of the thyroid gland from oxidation damage.
The oxygen we breathe helps
to burn sugar and fat inside our body cells to produce energy. But about
2% of the converted oxygen remains as highly reactive molecules that modify,
disrupt and impair the stable structure within our body. These are called
“free radicals.” If free radicals are not neutralized, cell membranes breakdown
and DNA is damaged, resulting in a compromised immune system, disease and
rapid aging. Many environmental and ingested agents spur free radical production
– air pollution, pesticides, radiation, alcohol, sugar, cigarette smoke,
illegal drugs and prescription medications. To combat the hostile effect
of free radicals, our bodies use antioxidants (free radical scavengers)
that extinguish the biochemical fire. Bruce Ames, Ph.D. at the University
of California, Berkley, estimates that every single one of our cells suffers
from 10,000 hits by free radicals daily.
Glutathione is used
more than any other antioxidant in the body, and is the most abundant natural
antioxidant that protects our vision, boosts the immune system, helps turn
carbohydrates into energy and prevents the buildup of oxidized fats that
contribute to heart disease. Glutathione supports us at the cellular level
by protecting every cell of the body, but our levels decline dramatically
with age. Our bodies are constantly replacing and repairing free-radical
damaged cells, but the demands of the modern age have created high levels
of free radicals with limited supplies of Glutathione to correct the damage.
Without Glutathione, other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E cannot
perform their functions adequately to protect the body against disease.
The
brain consumes about 20% of the oxygen utilized by the body but constitutes
only 2% of the body weight and is therefore particularly susceptible to
free radical attacks. Glutathione acts to prevent and protect the brain
from the damage of free radicals.Glutathione protects both the mother and
the developing fetus from the damaging effects of free radicals, and minimizes
the oxidative stress that occurs during labor and the birth process. The
placenta contains a significant amount of glutathione to filter pollutants
before they reach the baby.
In the last 75 years, clean
and healthy food supplies have been replaced by sugar, processed food,
chemicals, genetically altered fruit and vegetables, chemical and hormone
laced dairy products, hormone and preservative laden meats, high saturated
fats with sugar and thousands of medications. There are tens of thousands
of confirmed toxic substances in our environment and as a result, obesity,
heart disease, diabetes, allergies and mental health issues are rampant.
By age 20 we are losing Glutathione at 8-12% per decade. But compromised
health and excessive use of medications can deplete the body more rapidly.
Some scientists estimate that a 30% reduction of Glutathione is enough
for cellular dysfunction to set in.
The liver is our ultimate
cleaner and has two critical functions: to process nutrients and eliminate
toxins from the body. It does this by filtering the blood at about two
quarts a minute. Approximately 25% of all the blood in the body is
filtered through the liver at any one time. Some glutathione is released
directly by the liver into the bloodstream where it helps to maintain the
strength of red blood cells while also protecting the white blood cells.
Large quantities of Glutathione are found in the liver where a two-stage
detoxification process takes place. Phase One begins the chemical conversion
of harmful compounds that are mainly fat-soluble into intermediate forms.
But Phase Two is where the final transformation takes place to converts
the intermediate toxins into water-soluble substances that can be excreted
thru the bowel or kidneys. Only water-soluble substances can be excreted.
If there is not enough Glutathione to generate the Phase two enzymes, toxins
will build to dangerous levels in the liver.
Unlike unnatural detoxification
supplements, the use of Glutathione is a natural process that allows our
body to perform its filtering capability organically and comfortably.
Many herbs that detoxify will also deplete – Glutathione inherently builds
and nourishes. Glutathione is a critical element for good health, strong
immune function, cancer prevention and the slowing of the aging process.
Basically, increasing Glutathione levels enhances life.

Robert Kiyosaki - "Network
marketing is at its core a relationship business. It’s about establishing
relationships, coaching and training, and teaching and mentoring. The actual
day-to-day work of building a network is less like carving out a sales
territory than it is like building a community. And the supporting, coaching,
nurturing relationship of a network marketing sponsor to her growing network
of apprentice networkers is the kind of relationship and interaction in
which women excel". —Kim Kiyosaki
"Network marketing has been around
in various forms since the middle of the last century. The basic idea is
as simple as it is brilliant: Instead of spending tons of money on all
sorts of professional agencies and marketing channels to promote products
or services, why not pay the people who love them most to just tell others
about them?" —John Fleming
Robert Kiyosaki - "In 1994 I
started researching the network marketing business in earnest. I went to
every presentation I heard about and listened closely to everything I heard.
Eventually I began meeting some of these companies’ leaders, and I was
stunned to find that they were some of the most intelligent, kind, ethical,
moral, spiritual, and professional people I had met in all my years of
business". —Robert Kiyosaki
Robert
Kiyosaki lends his substantial credibility to this much-misunderstood business
to clear away the misconceptions that keep many prospects from joining.
He demolishes objections one by one so that those who are determined to
succeed in "The New Economy" will see that only network marketing offers
all the benefits of a huge business, with none of the risk, expense, and
complexity.
Network marketing is a revolutionary
business format that relies more on communication, leadership, and team-building
skills than it does sales skills. It doesn't require a college education
